Boerne Public Library Visit

This post was submitted  by Aidan from Pack 109, Den 2 (Webelos II)  as part of the requirements for the Communicator Achievement.

Pack 109 Webelos Den 2 visited the Boerne Public Library on Main Street in Boerne, TX on September 10, 2013 to talk to a librarian and learn about how books are catalogued.

The new Boerne Library’s official name is the Patrick  Heath Public Library, and it opened on June 4, 2011.  The library’s contact information is below:

451 N. Main Street, Building 100, Boerne, TX 78006

Phone: (830) 249-3053

The website is www.boernelibrary.org

The Webelos met with the youth librarian, Ms. Constance Keremes. She taught the den how to use the library’s computer based catalogue system to search for books and other resources. We were amazed about how many books they have in the library.  Mrs. Keremes taught us how to locate our favorite types of fiction and nonfiction books using the catalogue system. She also taught us how to get a local library card or a TexShare card for those that do not live within Kendall County (many of us in the Fair Oaks Ranch area).

The Boerne Library is an amazing facility. There are glass windows everywhere, an outdoor reading area, and even a balcony looking out over the property.

The library website is very helpful. There is access to the catalogue system and to the newsletter and activities just for kids.

Den 2 really appreciated the time Ms. Keremes spent with us and we will definitely return to the library!

Web Host Change/Updates

We changed the web hosting service for the pack website.

This means that you will need to sign up again for email updates on the site.   There is a "Subscribe to Updates" block on most of the website.  Just enter your name and email and you will be subscribed.  You can unsubscribe at any time.

We will also be using the calendar more this year.  You can add items to your calendar using the "+gCal" and "+iCal" buttons at the bottom of every calendar post.  This will allow you to add the information to your Google or other calendar.  Unfortunately, you will have to do this for every calendar event one-by-one.

Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System (City of San Antonio)

There are opportunities for hiking and biking all over the San Antonio area. Here is a link to the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System that contains maps and information on trail safety.

According to the site, "Forty-one miles of developed greenway trails are now open to the public. The Linear Park Development Program for Salado Creek, Leon Creek, Medina River and the San Antonio River is funded through sales tax approved by voters in 2000, 2005 and 2010. Approximately 1,200 acres of property along San Antonio Creekways have been acquired for the program since its inception."
